Pranayama Fundamentals Workshop
Sunday 2 April 2023 // 1.00pm – 3.00pm // $55 In Person
Join David Helman for a Pranayama (breathwork) workshop, designed to teach you the fundamentals of yogic breathing.
The regular practice of pranayama helps to restore balance and bring all systems of body and mind into equilibrium. It prepares the nervous system and mind for focussed concentration (Dharana) and is one of the most important and effective transformative practices of the Yoga tradition.
In this workshop we’ll explore pranayama practices and techniques to learn to breathe fully and deeply using the diaphragm and thoracic cage. We’ll explore a brief history of pranayama, it’s relevance in modern life, learn valuable techniques as well as the many benefits of this essential practice.
We will follow the pranayamas outlined in the Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā of Yogi Svatmarama (a classic yoga text circa 15th. century CE), with scientific explanations offered to gain a clear understanding of the most common pranayama rhythms that are often incorporated into a yoga class. You will leave feeling calm, energised and armed with the knowledge to create a simple pranayama routine to stay committed to regular practice. More than just breathwork, this will be a workshop to help you get connected to your subtle and deeper self.
Suitable for all levels of practitioner, those who experience anxiety or have an interest in learning about the link between breathing and nervous system regulation.
